I hear metal as the water drops hit my shoulder

"Every morning, as I stand in the shower, I hear metallic sounds where the water drops hit my shoulder... Here, touch it... knock on it.... Do you hear it?" Yes I do. And it freaks me out. I am very curious about implants, they fascinate me, and sort of make me feel uncomfortable at the same time. Each time I hear or meet someone who has one, it makes me want to know more. In the few people that I have met, implants are life-saving. This time its my uncle, and his body is a case of resilience. After multiple different operations for multiple different reasons, he carries on with his life as if nothing ever happened. As I meet him this time with his new Defibrillator Implant, I realise its like meeting a Bionic Hero in the making. His doctor brings his external little machine close to his awkwardly bulging shoulder, and downloads all his heart's activity every few months. If his heart beat moves outside the required parameters, the implant gives him a big electric shock, "like being kicked real hard", and that forces the heart to start beating steadily again. As he needs to travel a lot, they have given him a little machine for measuring his own oxygen levels as well, next one will be his phone, monitoring himself effortlessly. Yes, the man-machine divisions are becoming increasingly porous, and catching up with our everday lives, perhaps faster then the 'Ubicomp vision'. 2345006285_8d3036c981_oTalking to my uncle reminded me of this Mr. Bionic Gandalf, walking about in Soho one fine London morning.
